Frank Martin says he believes Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis “f***d up” by choosing him to defend his WBA ‘regular’ lightweight title against him on June 15th.
Martin wants Tank to regret choosing him by handing the 29-year-old his first career loss next month when they meet on PBC Pay-Per-View on Prime Video at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. ‘The Ghost’ Martin is going to prove that he’s not a stepping stone fighter for Tank to use to look good against.
Tank (29-0, 27 KOs) has been well-maneuvered during his 11-year professional career by his promoters and management, so you have to wonder why, after all these years, he’s finally facing a real threat.
His management at PBC could have no choice but to put him in with Martin (18-0, 12 KOs) because they’re with a new broadcast partner with Prime Video, and their cards must do well.
That can’t happen unless fighters like Tank Davis are matched against opposition with actual talent and the undercards are stacked. It’s hard to believe that the best name on Tank Davis’ resume is Isaac Cruz because he should have fought many better fighters than him by now.
Some blame Tank Davis’s previous promoters at Mayweather Promotions for protecting him from the talented opposition at 135. That can’t go on, though, with PBC needing to put on good shows on Prime Video PPV.
The 29-year-old Detroit native, Martin, is coming off a twelve-round unanimous decision over Artem Harutyunyan last July. Before that, he defeated Michel Rivera in an impressive performance that got the attention of a lot of boxing fans in 2022.
Martin Believes Tank Davis Made a Mistake Choosing Him
“I get the opportunity to show the world what I’m all about. I appreciate Gervonta Davis for even taking the fight. I believe they f**** up my taking this fight, but I do appreciate them giving me this opportunity to show the world what I’m about,” said Frank Martin to Premier Boxing Champions, talking about his title shot next month against WBA ‘regular’ lightweight champion Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis on June 15th on PBC PPV.
“I’m just ready to go out and shock the world and do what I do and what people think I can’t do,” said Martin.
