Frazer Clarke Flies to Saudi But Insists Wardley Rematch Remains Priority

Heavyweight Frazer Clarke has confirmed that he will be heading to Saudi Arabia to discuss possible opportunities but insists that a rematch with Fabio Wardley remains his priority following their British and Commonwealth heavyweight title fight at the O2 Arena, London, in March. 

Clarke (8-0-1, 6 KOs) and Wardley (17-0-1, 16 KOs) fought to a draw in a thrilling spectacle in the British capital. Clarke rose from the canvas and attempted to bludgeon a bloodied and swollen Wardley into submission to wrestle away the domestic titles from the Ipswich native. The ebb and flow of the fight instantly made it a fight-of-the-year contender as promoter Ben Shalom seemingly prioritized running the contest back as soon as possible.

In his column in the Metro, Clarke revealed: “My team and I have had conversations about what is next. If I’m honest, I like having those conversations straight away because I like to know what’s next on the agenda and keep myself in check.”

“I would love the rematch, but other discussions are going on, too. I am flying out to Saudi Arabia next week for a chat. So there are huge things lined up either way, but for the sake of my conscience, we need to do it again.”

Despite Clarke’s interest in fighting over the Middle East, the Olympian believes that he and Wardley owe it to the British public that the rematch takes place between themselves to settle the score and find a definitive winner between each other. 

“We owe it to the British fight fans and to ourselves to get a winner,” Clarke said. “But that’s from my side. Fabio will have his own thoughts and his own journey, and he also needs to do what is best for him.”
