Tyson Fury has announced his intention to face Oleksandr Usyk for a third time if he wins their upcoming rematch on live on DAZN on December 21 in Riyadh, potentially sidelining Anthony Joshua’s hopes for an all-British bout. Fury seeks vengeance after Usyk handed him his first professional defeat in May, claiming the title of the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis in 1999. Although the rematch won’t involve all the belts due to Usyk vacating his IBF title, fans still eagerly anticipate a Fury-Joshua showdown to determine the top British heavyweight.
Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, emphasized the significance of a Fury vs. AJ fight, stating, “I think Fury vs AJ is the fight regardless.” While AJ plans to fight Daniel Dubois in May or June, Hearn acknowledges that Fury vs. AJ remains a “monster” event. Meanwhile, Frank Warren, Fury’s promoter, highlighted the legacy implications for Fury and Usyk, noting that victory would cement their status as the best heavyweight of their generation.
Despite these discussions, Fury dismissed immediate plans for a Joshua fight, insisting on a trilogy with Usyk: “There will be a rematch, a rubber match, trilogy.” This decision delays the long-anticipated clash between Fury and Joshua, which has been stalled since talks collapsed in 2022.
