Promoter Eddie Hearn predicts that Tyson Fury will fall behind in the first five or six rounds against unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, making it necessary for him to rally by becoming more aggressive in their 12-round undisputed championship headliner in Riyadh.
Fury’s Aggressive Turnaround
Hearn doesn’t elaborate on what he means by saying WBC champion Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs) needs to be aggressive, but I think we’ve seen what he does when he chooses to do that. Fury will resort to his dirty tactics that worked so well against past fighters.
You can expect a nice display of mauling, holding and hitting, elbows, and rabbit punches as part of Fury’s aggression when things are looking bleak.
If things are real bad, we could see some low blows as well from the Gypsy King. Things that would make a WWE wrestler proud.
It’s important that a good referee is on duty to keep track of all this to prevent the Fury-Usyk fight from devolving into a primitive street fight instead of a boxing match fought under the Marquess of Queensbury rules.
To keep the fight from becoming a back alley brawl, there needs to be a referee that is proactive and not some loss that is just there in body only, blocking the view of the action.
Hearn’s Analysis: Fury’s Strategy and Usyk’s Anger
“Usyk, I think he’s going to try and bully Tyson Fury. Fury comes in light because I think he’s going to try and move,” said promoter Eddie Hearn to Charlie Parson’s forum, giving his analysis of tonight’s heavyweight fight between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury.
The Gypsy King’s movement won’t last long because even at 262 lbs, the 35-year-old Fury is too flabby and old to move around for more than a round before transitioning into his questionable tactics.
“I think he’s [Fury] going to be behind after five or six rounds, and then he’s going to have to switch it up, be aggressive. Maybe that cut opens up. I think we’re going to get a cagy start and gearing into a good fight.
“I’ve never seen Usyk look as angry as he was. Two great athletes, two great minds. It’s going to be a hell of a fight,” said Hearn.
