Promoter Eddie Hearn is offering a way out for Tyson Fury of his rematch clause for Oleksandr Usyk by suggesting that he can fight Anthony Joshua next. This is a chance for Fury to avoid further humiliation.

It’s a generous offer by Hearn, giving Fury a chance to fight Joshua and have a good excuse to give the boxing public why he’s choosing not to attempt to redeem himself.

The lifeline that Hearn is throwing to the 35-year-old down-in-his-luck Fury reeks of pity, because the promoters is well aware of how despite his situation is now.

Fury’s confidence has got to be at an all-time low after the way Usyk handled him. After that defeat, does the Gypsy King have the guts to fight Usyk again and risk getting beaten again?

Yeah, Fury will look cowardly if he chooses to slink away with his tail between his legs by not taking the rematch, but the tons of cash that he’ll make fighting Joshua will make it easier on his guilty conscience.

A Lifeline or a Final Nail?

“He’s ready to fight anybody. He’d love to fight Oleksandr Usyk again, he’d love to fight Tyson Fury, happy to fight Filip Hrgovic, Daniel Dubois, Joseph Parker, Deontay Wilder. Anybody who wants it can get it,” said promoter Eddie Hearn to Matchroom Boxing, giving Tyson Fury an option to fight Anthony Joshua next rather than Oleksandr Usyk in a rematch.

As Hearn points out, Joshua is willing to fight any of the top guys in the division. If wants a way out of his rematch with Usyk, I would suggest he take Hearn up on his offer while it’s still on the table.

Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs) lost his WBC heavyweight title to unified champion Usyk by a 12-round split decision last Saturday night in Riyadh.

The official results don’t tell the whole story of the fight. In the true sense, it was a ninth-round knockout loss for Fury, but the referee saved his hide by swooping in to give him a standing eight count just when Usyk was seconds away from finishing him off.

Fury’s Fork in the Road

It’s a tough choice for the old professional Fury to make. He can either let pride govern his next move by activating his rematch clause to fight Usyk and hoping for the best or slink away, taking Hearn up on his kind offer to fight Joshua.
