Tyson Fury is dismissing Oleksandr Usyk as a threat for their rematch in 29 days on December 21, pointing out that he’d hit him with everything but the kitchen sink in the ninth round of their first fight, and he couldn’t knock him out.
Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs) says he took the unified heavyweight champion Usyk’s best shots on May 18th and “smiled” at him. Now, he’s coming back with a vengeance to get revenge on December 21st in their headliner on DAZN PPV at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Fury Looking Out of Shape
Heavyweight Kevin Lerena posted a photo of him and a bearded Fury posing, shirtless, outside of the ring. Interestingly, Fury, 36, has got his trunks pulled up to his ribcage in what appears to be an effort to hide his flabby belly. Fans on X were critical of Fury’s conditioning after DAZN posted a picture of him and trainer Sugarhill Steward on social media on Thursday.
Fury’s midsection showed signs of a person carrying a lot of extra weight that shouldn’t be there, given the time remaining for his rematch with Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs). He appears a good 40 lbs overweight.
If that weight were trimmed off by December 21st, he’d be a new man, perhaps able to move around the ring as he did in 2015 when he was still spry and defeated the former King of the heavyweight division, Wladimir Klitschko.
The way Fury looks now, he will have problems against the agile, highly athletic Usyk, who will take him to school and knock him out this time. There won’t be a referee to save Fury this time with a standing eight count.
“I know he’s got no power because if he has a man out on his feet and hits him with another ten free shots and doesn’t even drop him, how is he going to hurt me?” said Tyson Fury to Queensberry Promotions on X, dismissing Oleksandr Usyk as having a chance of knocking him out on December 21st in their rematch in Riyadh.
“He had his shots. I took his best shots, his five shots, and smiled. Like Tupac said, ‘Now, he’s about to feel the wrath of the menace.’”
The Millionaire Mindset
I watched the Fury-Usyk fight last May, and I didn’t see Fury smiling during the ninth or subsequent rounds. He looked dazed, out on his feet in round nine, looking up in the skies. After the fight, Fury sounded like a man who’d lost his senses, talking about Happy New Year nonsense.
The 20 unanswered headshots that Usyk hit Fury with him babbling afterward, thinking he’d done enough to win, and coming up with conspiracy junk. It was sad, but it’s understandable, given the punishment he’d absorbed in round nine.
The only conclusion one could draw is that Fury isn’t taking the fight seriously because he’s so rich. It’s hard for people to understand, but for someone with a $140 million net worth, like Fury, and about to make another $100 million for a rematch with Usyk, the concern isn’t there like it would be for a normal person.
