Tyson Fury’s manager, Spencer Brown, says he doesn’t care that his rematch with WBA/WBC/WBO heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk won’t be for the undisputed championship on December 21st.
Fury’s Change of Tune
Brown states that the ‘Gypsy King’ Fury only wants to avenge his loss from last May in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
This contradicts what Fury had said a week ago when hitting the heavy bag, talking about wanting to capture the undisputed championship in his rematch with Usyk. Now, he’s changed his tune and doesn’t care about the belts.
Of course, this could be right because Fury seems to be fighting to capture a big pile of cash, grabbing as much as he can with both hands before he retires.
Many fans believe the 35-year-old Fury’s mind is no longer in the game and is just hanging for greed because the Saudis are paying him so much for his fights. The 262-lb Fury looked like a physical wreck in his last fight against Usyk on May 18th, slowed by the saddlebags around his waist and incapable of fighting in the center of the ring due to his poor shape.
Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) messed up Fury’s chances of becoming undisputed champion by vacating his IBF title, giving it away as a generous gift to his former conquered foes, Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois, to scrap over on September 21st.
“We done the fight. The next fight will be for the unified title. Tyson just wants the fight. He doesn’t care if it’s for no belts. He wants to right the wrongs. He’s not bothered about belts,” said Spencer Brown to Boxing King Media, chiming in about Tyson Fury’s view about his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk not being for the undisputed heavyweight championship on December 21st.
“I think Tyson Fury wins the fight,” said Brown.
Despite Fury’s lack of concern about the titles, it’s still important that he wins the rematch with Usyk because there won’t be as much PPV dough for his clash against Joshua if he’s coming into the mega-fight as a two-time loser. A loss for Fury = less dough for the Joshua fight.
Fury’s Priorities: Money Over Titles
Unsurprisingly, Fury doesn’t care about the belts because he says he doesn’t care about titles. He’s just in it for the money and wants the Joshua fight because that’s where he will get a massive payday.
What’s disappointing to fans is the Fury-Joshua fight will still go ahead in 2025, regardless of the outcome of their next fights. That revelation laid bare the curtain to expose what their fight is all about. It’s just money and has nothing to do with sports or titles.
