Galal Yafai completely overpowered Sunny Edwards in Birmingham.

Galal Yafai destroyed a listless and often worrying Sunny Edwards tonight in Birmingham, England, claiming the interim WBC flyweight title with a sixth round TKO victory.

Yafai (9-0, 7 KO) brought heavy pressure to Edwards (21-2, 4 KO) from the jump, and the 28-year-old Edwards never got into the fight at all, displaying troubling emotions in his corner between rounds, including telling his team that he didn’t want to be there.

Yafai’s deeper skill set and power were too much for Edwards mentally as much as physically, but it was clear that Edwards didn’t like how the fight was going physically, either.

It’s a big win for the 31-year-old Yafai, who won Olympic gold in Tokyo and has wanted to fast track his pro career, which he did simply by taking this bout in his ninth professional outing, and certainly has cemented his status as a top flyweight with the one-sided victory.
