George Kambosos Jnr has signed a co-promotional deal with Matchroom Boxing, DiBella Entertainment Inc. and Ferocious Promotions.

The former lightweight titleholder will move up to junior welterweight, targeting an early 2025 return as he pursues a second world title. Details of his next fight are yet to be announced.

Kambosos, 21-3 (10 KOs), rose to prominence in November 2021 with a shocking upset of Teofimo Lopez Jnr at Madison Square Garden in New York, capturing the unified lightweight titles. However, his reign was short-lived as he dropped the belts to Devin Haney in June 2022 in Melbourne, Australia, and lost the rematch later that year.

In 2023, Kambosos returned with a contentious majority decision win over Maxi Hughes in Oklahoma before being stopped by Vasiliy Lomachenko in May for a vacant title at RAC Arena in Perth, Australia.

“I’m excited to be aligning myself to Matchroom Boxing and to be signed in a co-promotional three-way agreement with my long-time promoter DiBella Entertainment Inc. and Ferocious Promotions,” said the 31-year-old Kambosos. “I have had great success and history when promoted on Matchroom shows, winning my world title eliminator bout in the UK against Lee Selby and, most notably, my victory against Teofimo at Madison Square Garden to become the undisputed lightweight champion.”

Kambosos added: “I am officially announcing that I will be moving up to the 140lbs division, and being signed to Matchroom will give me the continued success and legacy I want to leave in the sport of boxing.”

Matchroom chairman Eddie Hearn welcomed Australia’s Kambosos to his roster.

“George’s win over Teofimo ripped up the script and showed that George was a man for the big occasion,” Hearn said. “He’s proved to be a massive draw in Australia and one of the driving forces behind boxing’s rapid rise Down Under. The 140lbs division is stacked, and adding George only raises the levels. A potential fight with Liam Paro is a real mouth-watering prospect if Liam gets the win on December 7.”

Lou DiBella, president of DiBella Entertainment, praised Kambosos’ willingness to take on challenges: “Throughout his career, George has been a warrior who never shies away from a challenge. Matchroom works with the best at 140 pounds, including George’s countryman Liam Paro, and, like DiBella Entertainment, is heavily invested in Australia. This is a natural partnership.”
