Top Rank promoter Bob Arum says Gervonta Davis lost his fight against Lamont Roach on March 1st, and he needs to start taking the sport “seriously.” Arum feels that Tank (30-0-1, 28 KOs) is treating boxing like it’s a “media kind of thing,” and he “seems ordinary.”

Tank may seem ordinary to Arum, but he’s still the big money guy at 135, and the one that he’s hoping to match his fighters against.

Bob says he’s taken a good look at Tank Davis’s fights because he’s seen him as a potential opponent for some of his fighters he promotes at Top Rank. He’s likely talking about Keyshawn Davis, Raymond Muratalla, and Abdullah Mason. Those are the three guys that Arum has at 135 that are active. Vasily Lomachenko is injured, and Arum doesn’t know whether he’ll resume his career.

Arum questions whether Tank can win the rematch with Roach because he doesn’t know if he can change. He doesn’t come right out and say it, but Tank has fought the same sway his entire career. His power has bailed him out in fights against Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero, Ryan Garcia, and Mario Barrios.

Davis was held to a controversial 12-round draw against Roach, and he’s lucky that the referee, Steve Willis, didn’t score it as a knockdown in the ninth round when Tank took a knee. The referee let that slide and didn’t say anything about Davis calling his own timeout and walking back to his corner to wipe off the grease from his eyes.

“Take It Seriously”

“I thought Roach won the fight. It was a close fight,” said Bob Arum to Sean Zittel about the Gervonta Davis vs. Lamont Roach clash earlier this month on March 1st. “I think Davis has to start taking boxing seriously. It’s not just a media kind of thing. He seems kind of ordinary. I don’t know if he’s capable of changing,” said Arum when asked if Tank Davis will win the rematch with Roach.

“I wanted to get a good look at him because he’s been mentioned as a possible opponent for fighters that I promote,” said Arum about Gervonta.

Tank might be heading towards retirement soon after he collects two or three paydays. The rematch with Roach is almost certain, but then there is a possible fight against Jake Paul. That would bring in a fortune for Tank. A rematch with Ryan Garcia is also likely before he retires.

Gervonta is NOT going to fight Keyshawn Davis. Hopefully, Arum isn’t counting on that fight happening because there’s zero chance of that. Keyshawn doesn’t have the fanbase for Tank to be interested in fighting him.
