WBC light welterweight champion Devin Haney’s dad, trainer Bill Haney, came out of the woodwork today to take s verbal swipe at Ryan Garcia over his positive PED test for his win over his son last April.
Bill posted a video where he was gloating about Ryan’s positive PED, treating it almost like a victory for his son, Devin, who had his slate wiped clean from his loss to Ryan on April 20th.
Haney Camp Awaits B-Sample Results
Bill made it clear that he’s waiting for Ryan’s B-sample to be tested on May 22nd. If that test proves to be positive, like Ryan’s other tests for the banned PED Ostarine, it’s going to be bad for him, and he could get suspended.
“I’m definitely not on that Ryan Garcia pack because I heard it’s laced with PEDs. I’ll see you on May 22nd,” said Bill Haney on YouTube at Therealone channel. Ryan defeated Haney by a 12-round majority decision on April 20th in Brooklyn, New York.
If Ryan’s B-sample is found to have the banned substance, Ostarine will allow Bill to celebrate and use this information to create a narrative that the only reason Devin lost was that Garcia was cheating.
For Haney to win back fans, it’s going to take more than Ryan being dirty. Devin is going to have to defeat someone good in the 140-lb division, like Subriel Matias. However, Haney isn’t going to fight him next because his mandatory, Sandor Martin, is due.
Implications for Garcia’s Career
The win has taken Ryan’s career to another level. However, the positive PED tests have tainted his win. A suspension of a year or more could hurt Ryan’s career, interrupting his momentum, and taking the air out of his plans to set up a big fight with one of the top fighters.
