Devin Haney’s father, Bill Haney, still bitter over his son’s loss last April, has started a countdown to May 22nd, the day Ryan Garcia’s B-sample is revealed.

Bill seems to think that the May 22nd results will be some kind of victory for his son, Devin, and will erase what happened to him last April in the minds of fans. It’s too late. Haney’s popularity has taken a hit, and that ain’t going to change regardless of what the May 22nd results show.

Ryan has offered to give Haney a rematch, saying, “If you feel you were cheated, we can run it again.” That would be the ideal way for Haney to redeem himself rather than using the May 22nd B-sample reading as a way to claim victory.

Bill’s energy in the May 22nd B-sample reading suggests that he feels it will give Devin redemption, which doesn’t seem realistic. He reality believes that fans are going to look at Haney in the same light as they did before his loss to Ryan Garcia last April, and that’s not likely to happen.

Casual boxing fans don’t follow the sport closely enough to pay attention to the May 22nd B-sample reading, and hardcore boxing fans have already formed their opinion. They collectively view Haney as a glass-jawed fighter with no power, who got exposed by Ryan Garcia.

Ryan did a number on Haney, winning a 12-round decision on April 20th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. It’s the type of loss where it’s hard to come back from.

Even if Ryan’s B-sample turns out to be dirty on May 22nd, it’s not going to change the reality of what fans witnessed last April. Haney’s popularity, such as it was, is gone! Devin wasn’t popular even before Ryan demolished him, but now that he has, the B-sample reading isn’t going to change any of that.

Bill and promoter Eddie Hearn want to erase the loss from Devin’s record, changing it to a no-contest. It’s quite possible that will be the outcome if Ryan’s B-sample turns out to be positive for the banned PED drug Ostarine.
