Fans believe karma has caught up to Shakur Stevenson, resulting in his hand injury this week while preparing for his now-canceled fight against Joe Cordina on October 12th.
Brittle Hands = Career Derailment
Shakur’s Past Actions:
- Not giving Edwin De Los Santos a rematch
- Clout chasing Gervonta Davis 24/7,
- Swerving William Zepeda and Frank Martin
All these things have returned to haunt him, with karma coming into play to ruin his easy payday against Joe Cordina on October 12th. Shakur was rumored to be getting $5 million to headline on PPV against Cordina.
If this is karma biting Shakur on the backside, his brittle hands could rob him of what little power he already has. He’s clearly not the same fighter at 135 as he was at 130 and 126. This might be the end of Shakur’s career if he’s stuck with If Shakur had done the right thing, would this have happened?
The recently Matchroom-signed Stevenson never possessed much power to begin with, but having fragile hands could wreck his career. It probably won’t prevent him from getting a cash-out against Tank Davis, as long as he doesn’t fight William Zepeda first.
Shakur: A Fish out of Water At 135
Stevenson (22-0, 10 KOs) hasn’t looked the same since facing Edwin De Los Santos last November. That fight showed that Shakur doesn’t belong at lightweight and is like a fish out of water in this division compared to how things were when he was beating smaller opposition at super featherweight and featherweight.
Promoter Eddie Hearn says Shakur ruptured a tendon in one of his hands and hopes to return in early 2025. If this is karma, Shakur ain’t going to do well when he returns to the ring in 2025.
It’s a good thing that Hearn only signed Stevenson to a two-fight deal with Matchroom because he can wash his hands of him once his contract is done after he loses a couple of times. If you’re Hearn, you got to be thinking of an exit strategy with Shakur.
Even before the mysterious hand injury thing popped up, Hearn had to be thinking of a way to cut his ties once things turned sour with Stevenson. The writing was already on the wall last November when Shakur was exposed by De Los Santos and booed out of the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
