Oscar De La Hoya Serheii Bohachuk was tough but Vergil Ortiz deserved the win.

Golden Boy promoter Oscar De La Hoya gave his immediate reaction to Vergil Ortiz’s majority decision win over Serheii Bohachuk and says while he believes it was a close fight, he does think Ortiz deserved the win. Check out some of what he had to say down below.

De La Hoya on the Bohachuk vs Ortiz fight

“I said this was going to be Fight of the Year and it was Fight of the Year. I mean, come on, this was a war. It was a close fight. Vergil attacked the entire night. Bohachuk obviously deserves all the credit in the world, but Vergil won.

“He was pressing the fight…Vergil Ortiz pressed the whole night, fought the whole night against a tough, tough Bohachuk…I did feel Vergil won.”

On if he expects Ortiz to go straight towards a Crawford fight next

“We’ll talk about that. We just discussed it with Your Excellency and if that’s what Vergil wants, that’s what we’re going to give him.”

On if there should be a rematch between Ortiz and Bohachuk

“Vergil is in the hospital, Bohachuk is in the hospital. Let’s respect that and once they get better we’ll discuss it again and make something happen.

“Look, both guys are okay, thank God. They’re both okay, they’re hurt — I mean it’s literally like the Rocky movie, Apollo Creed and Sylvester Stallone in the hospital, tough fight. Let’s let them rest and then we’ll reconvene.”
