HAMBURG – In the main event at the Grand Elysee hotel at the WBC Convention on a bill promoted by Ahmet Oener, and with former heavyweight king Lennox Lewis in attendance, French heavyweight prospect Mourad Aliev defeated Davide Brito in the sixth round.

Aliev sent Brito crashing to the canvas and as the Florida-based Italian tried to make it back to his feet, he staggered, then almost steadied himself but the fight was waved off.

Southpaw Aliev had been on top from the start, landing his dangerous long left hands, and won every session on his way to the stoppage after 1:56 of the sixth. He is now 13-0 (10 KOs). Brito, who complained at the stoppage, is 6-1 (3 KOs).

Mexico’s Asley Maria Gonzalez retained her WBC junior bantamweight title with a solid win over Mary Romero.

Gonzalez got on top after the halfway mark and her strength and power took over. She earned her victory by margins of 97-93 and two cards of 98-92.

Germany-based Turk Serkay Comert looks a good prospect. He is now 9-0 (7 KOs), and Italian opponent Yassin Hermi, now 15-2-1 (12 KOs), earned his money the hard way. He soaked up some big shots throughout from the heavy-handed Comert but stayed in the fight, losing widely on the cards, 100-89 and by two totals of 99-90.

Hermi was down in the sixth and was under real pressure. There were times when it looked as though the referee might have intervened, and he would have been excused for doing so.

WBC atomweight champion Esneidy Rodriguez Olmos, 9-0-1, of Mexico, earned a split decision over Japan’s Sana Hazuki, 12-10-1 (6 KOs).

Hazuki used the ring well but stood and traded when she needed to. Olmos was aggressive and had some success to the body. They fought at a fast pace but Olmos’ superior firepower was the difference. The last round was breathless and both attacked furiously. One judge though Hazuki had done enough, 97-93, but she was overruled by two judges scoring 96-94 and 97-92.

Bohdan Myronets earned a surprise split decision win over Cuba’s Jose Larduet, winning a 10-rounder by scores of 97-93, 96-94, with one judge favoring Larduet by 97-93.
Both started well, Larduet was more on a reconnaissance mission while Myronets was actively trying to win the round, but in the second the Cuban got his opponent’s attention with a right hand and a couple of left hooks. The third was untidy but Myronets landed straight shots in the fourth. Larduet was looking for a counter right that only landed sparingly but it was an increasingly punishing encounter. Both landed heavily in the ninth.

In a fun contest, Germany’s Branimir Malencia stopped Albania’s favored Benjamin Gavazi after 1:41 of the 10th to claim the WBC silver light heavyweight title.

At the end of the seventh, Gavazi dropped his hands and beckoned Malencia to attack, and he accepted a couple of free shots. And Malencia gradually got on top of matters and was teeing off in Gavazi when the end came.

Hamburg’s Henry Gruen, 6-0 (2 KOs) stopped Venezuelan Jonny Sanchez, 20-3 (14 KOs), in four, and at junior middleweight Albanian southpaw Ermal Hadrbeaj, 20-0-1 (7 KOs) won a majority decision over Venezuela’s Eddy Colmenares, who is now 9-2-1 (9 KOs).
