Oscar De La Hoya says there are big plans in the works for Ryan Garcia’s return.
Golden Boy promoter Oscar De La Hoya spent a few minutes talking to boxing reporters about the recent news of the lawsuits against Ryan Garcia and himself, filed by Devin Haney, and then hints that Garcia will be making his return soon in another big event. Check out some of what De La Hoya had to say below.
On what’s next for Ryan Garcia
“I just had him in my office 30 minutes ago — big plans for him coming back. Obviously we have to deal with this frivolous lawsuit that they slapped on us, but that’s all it is, is noise. That’s all it is. How can you sue somebody that beat the crap out of you? It just doesn’t make sense.
“What I would do is call that fighter out, get back in the ring, and beat his ass.”
On if Garcia vs Haney 2 would be the biggest rematch of 2025
“I don’t think so because I believe that Devin Haney is a shot fighter.”
On if Garcia will fight in Japan this December
“Don’t know yet. We’re figuring it out as we speak. First things first, we got to get Ryan back to the place where he belongs and that’s just like in the gym. I saw him right now, he’s in great spirits, he’s doing awesome, he’s focused. What happened in the past, he’s learned, he’s grown as a young man, and I gave him a good nice little speech today about my experiences and how I’ve been through hell and back.
“I’m a man who has the experience, who can tell young man ‘hey, it’s okay, you’re going to be okay.”
On if his relationship with Garcia is better than it ever has been before
“When you do the right thing, when you’re positive, when you’re honest to your fighters, when you’re transparent, guess what — at the end of the day the good guys always win.”
