Tony Bellew says he wouldn’t be shocked to see Daniel Dubois beat Oleksandr Usyk, even as the underdog.
Tony Bellew tells Sky Sports that Daniel Dubois deserves credit for taking another fight with Oleksandr Usyk considering it’s been proven to be such a steep hill to climb. Dubois was stopped by Usyk in the summer of 2023 but now has a second shot at the Ukrainian on July 19, and this time with undisputed status on the line.
Bellew would say that Dubois has shown improvements since his loss to Usyk, and therefore he’s not completely without a shot to win even if he will be the underdog heading into the fight.
“He’s in with a real chance in this fight. I don’t think he’s going to win but I give him a big puncher’s chance. If he doesn’t let Usyk frustrate him, he’s in the fight, but it’s going to be a really difficult start for him because Usyk will know his strengths and powers, and let’s be honest, he also knows his weaknesses because he has been in the ring with him before.”
Conversely Dubois will think he knows Usyk’s weaknesses as well as he still believes he legitimately dropped Usyk with a body shot that’s still debated today. Dubois can’t live in the past, but he indicates he’ll be coming into this fight with a confidence he hasn’t had before as he looks to take the crown from what most consider to be the best pound for pound fighter in the sport.
