Will Tyson Fury be better prepared to complete the task against Oleksandr Usyk in their December 21 rematch?
Tyson Fury will have a chance to redeem himself and avenge his only professional loss on December 21, when he rematches Oleksandr Usyk. Speaking to Sky Sports, Fury’s Top Rank promoter Todd DuBoef reflects on the first fight and recalls thinking that it was a clear Fury win through the midpoint, until Fury got caught with a shot that turned things around.
As DuBoef tells it, he believes Fury let Usyk off the hook in that fight and suggests that if he doesn’t get distracted in the fight by messing about, he’ll surely win this time around.
“In those middle rounds it felt like he was just teeing off on him and I think he just got a little lackadaisical and confident,” DuBoef said. “I think he learned a lesson and it was a hard lesson. But I also believe the other guy’s going to be better this time, because he has more confidence.
“I think his personality the way he [Fury] is in the ring, is just his character. But I think he’s going to not take things for granted and I think learned a hard lesson.”
Surely considering the way things went in their first meeting, Fury will be aware that he can’t afford to take his foot off of the pedal in the rematch, and if that’s the case we could be in for an even better fight than we had the first time.
To this point Fury is still publicly exuding confidence about what will happen when this fight takes place at year’s end, but the truth of the matter will be on full display in the ring once the opening bell sounds.
