Jai Opetaia says he’d welcome a fight with Oleksandr Usyk

Jai Opetaia says he’d “love to test (himself)” against Oleksandr Usyk if a fight with the heavyweight king presents itself.

But there will be options, and the unbeaten top cruiserweight isn’t putting all his eggs in any one basket for now.

“(An Usyk fight is) something I’d take with both hands, a fight like that,” he said. “It’s a massive opportunity for myself. Respect to Usyk, I think he’s one of the best fighters of our generation, but I’d love to test myself and move up there.”

Opetaia (27-0, 21 KO) defended his IBF cruiserweight title successfully against David Nyika on Jan. 8 in Australia, and could also look to unify against WBA and WBO titleholder Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez, which would be an abnormally big fight for cruiserweight and one that the Aussie says he’d “love” to do.

He’s also open to other potential unifications, which would include WBC titleholder Norair Mikaeljan.
