Edgar Berlanga has fired back at Oscar De La Hoya.
Edgar Berlanga has fired back at Golden Boy promoter Oscar De La Hoya, who has predictably been a major critic of this coming Saturday’s fight between Canelo Alvarez and Berlanga.
“Guys like Oscar De La Hoya out there trying to destroy my reputation, destroy Canelo’s reputation, trying to say that we’re not going to sell no tickets, that the PPV numbers — nobody’s going to buy, it’s not going to hit over 100K. That’s bitch shit, and if I see him I’ll smack the shit out of him,” Berlanga said.
“He’s just upset, he’s just upset that he’s already old. He’s got a guy like Canelo that’s a real Mexican, that’s been undisputed and all of this, I know where his hate comes from with him. And with me, he wanted to sign me. He flew from Vegas trying to come out from LA, trying to come down to sign me. And we signed with one of the best, Eddie Hearn.
“So Oscar, fuck you.”
It’s true that De La Hoya wanted to sign Berlanga when the fighter parted with Top Rank in early 2023, that’s been documented. And we’ve all come to fully understand that Canelo and De La Hoya have genuine beef, which came into very public light earlier this year when Canelo fought Golden Boy’s Jaime Munguia, with Canelo even accusing De La Hoya of trying to steal money from fighters.
