Oscar De La Hoya and Eddie Hearn have been sending offers to one another.
It’s that time of the week again and Oscar De La Hoya takes to social media to give his take on topics in boxing including an idea that’s been floated regarding Golden Boy going against Matchroom in a five-fight card.
“There have been rumors that my company may do a five on five against Matchroom Sports, which is run by my buddy Eddie Hearn,” De La Hoya said. “We all know Eddie has the worst record as a promoter and his fighters aren’t the cream of the crop, but I’m always up for giving the fans a good night of fights under one condition — the fights will be contested in a tiny ring so nobody can run [Jaron Ennis and Shakur Stevenson].
“And since we have the best matchmaking in Golden Boy, these are the fights that I propose: Vergil Ortiz vs Boots, Munguia vs Pacheco, Zepeda vs Shakur, Oscar Duarte vs Devin Haney, and the winner of Ramirez vs Barboza will take on Jack Catterall. Hell, let’s even make it a six on six with me and you, Eddie, in the main event. I see you been taking box aerobic classes, so let’s give the fight fans what they really want to see, me kicking your ass.”
Eddie Hearn would essentially accept De La Hoya’s offer but made some clarifications about the proposal.
“Will make this easy for you,” Hearn posted on X. “Boots v Ortiz – AGREED. Munguia v Pacheco, he left you for Top Rank but if you can bring him back AGREED. Shakur v Zepeda AGREED. Duarte v Haney, Devin is not officially with us but happy with fight and to discuss with him. Caterrall v Barboza/Ramirez AGREED. Clean sweep.”
Hearn would tag Turki Alalshikh — who would obviously would be the financial backer of any such event — so we’ll see how much traction, if any, this gets going forward.
