Oscar De La Hoya and Canelo Alvarez may meet again in court.
Canelo Alvarez and Oscar De La Hoya had an altercation at yesterday’s final Canelo vs Munguia press conference which has picked up a lot of attention.
Canelo and his former promoter De La Hoya are not friendly — to say the least — and haven’t been in years, and the beef between the two went very public on Wednesday.
“Golden Boy built Canelo Alvarez, period. The company you fought under for decades has always had one name, and it’s mine, so put some f—ing respect on it,” De La Hoya said.
Canelo fired back that De La Hoya “tried to steal money” and “he’s a f—ing a—hole,” among other things.
De La Hoya told ESPN that he’s “definitely going to sue [Canelo] for defamation.”
“Imagine the damage that it can do to my reputation. Imagine the damage it can do to my business to fighters [who] are going to believe that. It’s terrible.”
Canelo’s main accusation is that De La Hoya had tried to steal money from Gennadiy Golovkin, whom De La Hoya says was “paid everything he’s owed.”
De La Hoya and Alvarez have been on opposite sides of legal issues before, going back to 2020 when Canelo sued to be released from his Golden Boy contract, which wound up successful in mediation.
Saturday’s fight is the first time Canelo has worked with Golden Boy at all since his 2019 win over Sergey Kovalev.
