Ahead of his upcoming Feb. 22 fight against Israil Madrimov, Vergil Ortiz takes DAZN inside his training camp as he prepares for his next big fight at 154 lbs. Ortiz takes on Madrimov on the undercard of the rematch between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol.

“The fight is about a month away and we’re just staying ready, man,” Ortiz says. “As of right now I’m just focused on being prepared, being ready, and I don’t think it’s hit me yet but I think it’ll hit me once I’m there.

“We were supposed to fight Boots, it fell through. It’s alright, we’ve got another big fight in Madrimov and as far as how that happened it was just like the Boots fight. They asked me if I wanted to fight, I said ‘yeah,’ it didn’t happen. And then they asked me ‘would you want to fight Madrimov,’ I’m like ‘yeah.’ It was very boring on my side, I say yeah to everyone.”

Ortiz would go on to say that when you face an unfamiliar opponent there is generally a feel out period within the fight, but he sparred up to 20 rounds against Madrimov so doesn’t believe there will be any hesitance once the first bell sounds.
