Oleksandr Usyk faces an opportunity to become twice undisputed champion this weekend.

Oleksandr Usyk has a rare opportunity two become a twice undisputed world champion when he takes on Tyson Fury this weekend. In a production by DAZN, a few insiders discuss what makes Usyk such a special talent while Usyk recounts how the love he received from his family, particularly his late father, has driven him to greater success.

“I remember a lot of my amateur fight, Olympic games, world champion, European champion, local Ukrainian competition — is big experience,” Usyk recalled. “When I was first Olympic games, it’s Beijing, I lost second fight.

“Second Olympic games I changed my life: it’s training, family, training, rest, family. Next Olympic games, I win. I say ‘Yes! It’s great, very much.’ I remember when my father called me, say ‘Congratulations, son. I love you.’ [Sighs] I say ‘Yes!’ It’s big motivation for me when my father told me ‘I love you.’

Usyk’s father would pass before he would ever get to show him the Olympic medal he won, though, and that’s something that remains an emotional subject as he still seemingly harbors feelings of guilt about not coming right home and instead of waiting on the delivery of a luxury car.

“It was hard because it’s man who tell me ‘son, you can.’ It’s hard,” Usyk said. “It’s hard now, too. I remember my father. I pray everyday for God to say ‘please, help my father.’ He every time close.”

Usyk will contend for all four major world titles in Saudi Arabia this weekend in a bid to become the first undisputed heavyweight champion in decades, and one of the only to ever do it in multiple divisions.
