Bob Arum says he has “no interest” in Paul vs Chavez Jr.
On Jake Paul vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr
“That’s not even boxing. Chavez Jr should have hung up — I thought he had hung up the gloves a long time ago. Jake Paul is not a boxer. It’s spectacle. The Tyson event was sort of demeaning for the sport of boxing. Tyson was an old man, and what are we talking about? But again, if Netflix or somebody else wants to pay for that event — I mean, that’s fine. But I have no interest in it. I have absolutely no interest in a Jake Paul vs Chavez Jr fight because it’s not boxing.”
On concerns about Chavez Jr’s ring fitness: “They’ll go to a place where being medically vetted is not the same as it would be, say, in Nevada. They’ll work their way around it. I mean, Mike Tyson shouldn’t have been in the ring, because no commission should have allowed Mike Tyson to put on a pair of boxing gloves.”
On Jake Paul possibly facing a Top Rank fighter: “Richard Torrez would be a good fight. Beterbiev would be a good fight. But Jake Paul is not fighting a real fighter. I mean, Jake Paul is smarter than you and me combined! It’s not a scam, because people know what they’re getting, but he is not interested in fighting somebody who can really give him a whipping. I remember when Jake Paul, before he caught onto this stuff, I was in England and he was fighting Tyson Fury’s half-brother, Tommy Fury, who can’t fight. Tommy Fury won every round, won a decision. There are very few heavyweights you can name that Tommy Fury would last more than one or two rounds.
“(Richard Torrez) would knock the shit out of (Jake Paul)! But Jake Paul is not gonna fight a Richard Torrez. No way would he fight a Richard Torrez.”
On a possible 5v5 with Matchroom
“No, 5v5 is ludicrous. Eddie Hearn is not a fighter, I’m not a fighter. To match his fighters with my fighters, what does it prove? Nothing. I would certainly work and have worked with Eddie to put on good, good fights that entertain the people.”
On Keyshawn Davis
“I told everybody, Keyshawn Davis reminds me of Sugar Ray Leonard. He fights the same style as Leonard did. Everybody thought Leonard was just a pit-a-pat boxer, but that was not the case. Leonard was a killer.”
