Ahead of the much-anticipated clash between David Benavidez and David Morrell, Jaime Munguia says he expects a thrilling encounter between two great 175lbs.

Arizona’s Benavidez, 27, is scheduled to go head to head with Cuba’s 26-year-old Morrell at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on February 1.

With vast experience, Munguia expects Benavidez to stand tall against Morrell despite the threat posed by the Cuban.

“I think it will undoubtedly be a very good fight,” Munguia told Fight Hub TV. “I think Benavidez should win because of his experience. He has much more experience than Morrell, so I think he is a stronger fighter.

“But Morrell is also a very good fighter, so without a doubt it will be a big fight. Well, they are in the same company, they know each other, it seems like a very exciting fight to me. Well, let’s see.”

Meanwhile, Munguia is preparing feverishly for a December 14 clash with Frenchman Bruno Surace in Tijuana. The fight became Munguia’s fourth bout in 2024 having faced John Ryder, Canelo Alvarez, and Erik Bazinyan.

Munguia suffered his maiden career defeat to Alvarez in May, but returned to winning ways four months later against Erik Bazinyan. On December 14, Munguia was looking to build on his emphatic 10th-round KO of Bazinyan.

“I believe that after each preparation for each fight you always learn. We are going to try to do much better for this fight, have a great experience, without a doubt leave with our arms raised for the knockout, and then give a great show to all my people in Tijuana.

“I think it was undoubtedly a great fight. I have had a lot of support in Arizona and I’m grateful to all the people of Arizona who have been supporting us. So, I think Tijuana is not going to be the exception and it is going to be a very nice night.”
