Mike Tyson looked like a dreadful, miserable caricature of the fighter he’d once been, losing to a YouTuber boxer, Jake Paul, by a wide eight-round unanimous decision on Friday night in a broadcast that was riddled with problems on Netflix. Fans were irate about the constantly freeing video, and it got worse when the Tyson vs. Paul fight started.

Tyson Fought With Injuries

After the fight, Tyson mentioned that he’d been dealing with injuries but added, “I don’t want to be giving excuses.” What is he talking about? The mere mention of Tyson having injury problems was him making an excuse.

The fight showed how little the 58-year-old Mike Tyson (50-7, 44 KOs) had left, getting wobbled in the third by three left hooks from Paul (11-1, 7 KOs) and struggling in the remaining five rounds.

Round eight was the cherry on top of a miserable evening for fans. Neither fighter did anything while the unhappy crowd of 72,000+ booed at the AT& Stadium in Arlington.

Tyson Resembled a Dinosaur

The scores for the mismatch were 80-72, 79-73, and 79-73, all for the 27-year-old Jake, who had too much youth for the 60-ish Tyson. It wasn’t that Jake was great. It was more a case of Tyson being as old as the extinct dinosaurs, which is where he should be. He doesn’t belong in a ring. The way Tyson looked, he needed to be in a care home.

Tyson had problems moving around the ring with his old, weary legs and looked exhausted in the championship rounds between six and eight. The weird part is that Jake wasn’t even fighting hard, and yet Tyson looked like he’d been through an ancient 15-round fight. He was so tired that the fight should have been stopped.

Paul looked like he was lightening up on his punches and intentionally not going after Tyson after hurting him in the third. All it would have taken was one short 10-second burst of punches from Jake, and he would have knocked Tyson out.

“I was trying to hurt him,” Jake said after the fight.

What was interesting is Mike hinted he would return to the fight to fight again, mentioning Jake’s brother, Logan Paul. A fight between them wouldn’t sell after tonight’s trainwreck.

Netflix Streams Were Freezing

Fans were upset and complaining throughout tonight’s Tyson-Paul event about the Netflix streams freezing on them, keeping them from watching the action without constant interruptions.

If Netflix continues to do boxing in the future, they’re going to need to fix the freeing problem so that fans will want to order their events.
