Arlington, TX – Jake Paul (9-1, 6 KOs) is set to take on heavyweight great Mike Tyson (50-6, 44 KOs) at the AT&T Stadium this summer, July 20thin what could be one of the year’s biggest sporting events.
With 120,000 fans signing up for pre-sale access, it could potentially break the US indoor boxing attendance record set by Canelo Alvarez and Billy Joe Sanders at this very stadium with an attendance of 73,126.
The event will also stream globally in over 190 countries via Netflix, which registers 270 million paid subscriptions. Netflix members will be able to view the event for free and watch an entertaining fight card that includes as the co-main event the long-awaited rematch between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano.
The undercard features a bout between two up-and-coming stars as Ashton Sylve (11-0, 9 KOs) takes on Floyd Schofield 1(7-0, 12 KOs), and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (53-6-1, 34 KOs) makes his return to the ring in a cruiserweight match against former UFC star Darren Till, who makes his professional boxing debut. If Chavez Jr. wins this could potentially setup a Jake Paul match in the future.
The press conference was held at Texas Live and was much more intense than the presser in New York. Mike Tyson became upset at to those media members who questioned his age or skills.
Tyson feels he is more than capable at defeating Jake Paul and is determined to prove to the world that he still has the skills and ability to punish Jake. As for Paul, he verbally jabbed Tyson throughout the presser with comical attacks on how he intends to defeat him. Insinuating that he intends to knock Tyson out.
Mike stated that he intends to do the same and intends to knock him out quickly. When Tyson was asked in which round, he would score the knockdown, Tyson stated on the first punch.
When Katie Taylor was asked if the winner of the Taylor-Serrano match would be the best women’s boxer she stated she feels she already is the best. She intends to capture a second victory against Serrano by improving on what she did in the first match.
The fight was a close and controversial match, if we see a repeat the judges may rule in favor of Serrano this time. Amanda is determined to duplicate her performance in the 5th round for the entire match, as she wobbled Taylor and was close to obtaining a knockdown in that round.
She intends to leave it all in the ring and give a performance where everyone can unequivocally say who the victor is. Amanda is moving up three divisions at 140 pounds and believes she’ll be stronger at this weight.
The rematch should be just as great as the first and could steal the show at what could be a historic night for boxing. Whatever your opinion of the Paul-Tyson bout, one thing is for sure, it could potentially break gate records and streaming service records.
