Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis posted on social media that he plans to return to the ring to pick up his 33rd win before his next fight.

Unbeaten IBF welterweight champion Ennis (32-0, 29 KOs) didn’t say who his opponent will be, but his promoter, Eddie Hearn, has already mentioned that he plans on staying at 147 to capture all the titles.

Hearn said he would speak to the IBF mandatory Karen Chukhadzhian management about where to stage the fight with Boots. He wants it to be in Philadelphia, where Ennis, 27, draws large crowds at the Well Fargo Center. However, Hearn isn’t saying the plan if Karen’s promoters refuse that idea and insist on placing it in Germany.

Despite the high praise that Hearn gives Ennis, he surprisingly lost his recent purse bid for his mandatory against Karen. Some feel that Hearn would have never lost a purse bid of this were his flagship fighter, Anthony Joshua, making a defense against someone.

It’s not a shock that Ennis will be staying at 147 because he gets hit a lot, and the fighters in the 154 would be dangerous for him. He had a tough time beating slugger Roiman Villa last year in July, taking a lot of heavy shots throughout the fight until knocking him out in the tenth round.

Even in Boots Ennis’ last fight against fringe contender David Avanesyan, he was punished a lot before knocking him out in the sixth. Moving up to 154 would be a risk for Ennis because he might not have the same results.

We just saw how vulnerable Terence Crawford looked moving up to 154 last August in Los Angeles. Obviously, some of that is Crawford’s age and inactivity, but he was more bothered by his opponent’s power and size. Ennis would face the same problems if he moved up to 154. He won’t have to worry about power in his next fight against Karen, who is a light hitter, who moves a lot around the ring.
