Jermall Charlo announced today on social media that he’ll be returning on the undercard of Gervonta Davis vs. Lamont Roach on December 14th at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. PBC still hasn’t confirmed that Jermall is fighting on the Tank-Roach card. So until they do, you must take what Jermall is saying with a grain of salt.

It’s unknown who Jermall will be fighting, but it’s not likely to be anyone notable at super middleweight.

The 34-year-old Charlo (33-0, 22 KOs) will be coming off a 13-month layoff since his last fight against Jose Benavidez Jr. on November 25th, 2023. For that fight, Charlo had come off a long 29-month layoff.

Jermall looked good for a fighter that had been out of action 2 1/2 years, defeating Benavidez Jr. by a ten-round unanimous decision, but nowhere near the level, he’d been at his best. It was thought that Charlo would remain active after his return, but he disappeared again.

Jermall’s last three fights since 2020

– Jose Benavidez Jr.
– Juan Macias Montiel
– Sergiy Derevyanchenko

Charlo is fighting in the red-hot super middleweight division, and if he can force himself to stay active, he might get lucky and be selected by unified 168-lb champion Canelo Alvarez. He’s desperate for opponents, and he already fought Charlo’s twin, Jermell, two years ago. If Jermall could get two or three wins over quality opponents in 2025, he might get lucky.

Much of the buzz that Jermall once had from fans about his career has evaporated due to his long spells of inactivity during the last three years. He’s probably not going to ever return to being the fighter that he once was because too much time has past, and he’s gotten older.

It’s unlikely that Charlo can get fans interested in his career again unless he beats some of these contenders:

– Caleb Plant
– Jaime Munguia
– Edgar Berlanga
– Osleys Iglesias
– Diego Pacheco

Berlanga and Plant would jump at the chance to fight Jermall if he showed interest because they need his scalp to get a rematch against Canelo. Both of them were blessed by the Mexican star and got giant paydays, and they’re not going to get a second chance without beating someone notable like Charlo.
