Stanislav Stepchuk, one of Oleksandr Usyk’s team members, who Tyson Fury’s papa, John Fury, head-butted today, says he didn’t want to punch the old man because of his age.
John came up to Stepchuk and head-butted him apparently for no reason other than him shouting Usyk’s name.
Stepchuk said that John, 59, might have a heart attack and would end up in an ambulance if he fought him. He says he did nothing to encourage the attack from John Fury, other than shouting, “Usyk, Usyk,” but that was enough.
Showing class, Stepchuk opted not to pursue John, avoiding a potential geriatric moment for the older Fury.
Usyk’s Team Member Takes the High Road
The head-butt left John Fury with a bloody forehead and left a nick in Stepchuk’s forehead.
WBC heavyweight champion Fury and IBF/WBA/WBO champ Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs) are fighting this Saturday night on May 18th for the undisputed championship in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in the ‘Ring of Fire event at the Kingdom Arena.
“I was just supporting our team. We were only shouting, ‘Usyk, Usyk,’ I didn’t touch him. He went crazy. Yeah [I wanted to tag John Fury], but because of the age difference, it would not be very fair,” said Usyk’s team member, Stanislav Stepchuk to Secondsout, discussing what led to Fury’s father, John Fury, head-butting him today.
Stepchuk: The Voice of Reason
“He should not look for an actual fight because maybe because of his heart, it could cause some problems. He could need an ambulance.
“For his sake, not to look for an actual fight because he could have a heart attack and finish in an ambulance.”
Stepchuk didn’t want to send John to the infirmary with a thrashing and cast a cloud over Saturday’s Fury-Usyk fight. But hopefully, Tyson puts a leash on John to keep him from going after other guys on Usyk’s team this week.
“It wouldn’t be fair. The bigger the man the more louder he falls,” said Stepchuk on why he didn’t punch John Fury after being head-butted.
Usyk Amused by Fury Family Antics
“Almost not. Not like Fury’s face,” said Stepchuk when asked if he was bleeding. “He was just laughing when he showed his face,” said Stepchuk when asked what Usyk said about him being head-butted by John.
“I’ll be ready. I’ll defend myself,” said Stepchuk on what he’ll do when he sees John Fury tomorrow. “I’ll be ready to fight.
