The rangy Josh Frankham worked well behind his jab to dictate terms against Artjom Spatar at Bethnal Green, London’s famous old fight venue York Hall.

Frankham picked up a warning for a low left hook early in the second and took some time out to recover but Spatar desperately tried to grab hold of the Englishman any time Frankham closed the distance.

The Estonian southpaw was never in their fight. Frankham found him with occasional right uppercuts and Spatar survived some heavy pressure in the third.

It was Frankham’s first fight in 10 months and often an untidy contest but there was no question who was in the ascendency. Frankham, who won the six-rounder 60-54, is trained by former Team GB amateur star Iain Weaver. He is now 10-0 (2 KOs). The Estonian falls to 4-10-1 (1 KO).

London junior lightweight debutant Frankie Wood, with Alan Smith and Eddie Lam in his corner, looked sharp from the start, lining up veteran journeyman Engel Gomez for straight left hands in the opening exchanges.

The southpaw has fast hands and varied his attacks to the head and body, tried screw shots and moved well, steadying Gomez with lefts in the second and winning comfortably 40-36 after four rounds. Gomez, a Nicaraguan who lives in Slovakia, is now 8-35-3 (3 KOs).

Unbeaten Essex southpaw Billy Adams had too much for Spain-based Nicaraguan Marvin Solano.

Solano, a frequent visitor to the UK as an opponent, is now 24-19 (8 KOs). Adams looked comfortable boxing off the back or front foot and landed the punch of the fight, a straight left down the middle, in the fifth that hurt Solano. Solano bravely attempted to slug back but Adams delivered the classier work and ran out a six-round winner by 60-54. Adams is 4-0.

The heavyweight William Hamilton, a 28 year old from Essex, improved to 6-0 (3 KOs) with a six-round decision over Sheffield’s Perry Howe, who is now 5-17-1 (1 KO). It was a largely pedestrian contest, although Hamilton started to load up as the fight wore on and won a decision by 60-54.
