In what some see as a sign of Anthony Joshua’s attempt to hold onto his youth, AJ has undergone hot cupping treatment ahead of his rumored fight against the young lion, Daniel Dubois, on September 21st at Wembley Stadium.

Can Cupping Therapy Restore AJ’s Youth?

Joshua will soon blow out 35 candles on his birthday cake, and this cupping treatment by the former two-time heavyweight champion could be seen as a desperate attempt to reverse the years.

It’s not uncommon for aging fighters to use bizarre methods to remain young, but man, this takes the cake. Joshua’s resorting to hot cupping signals his concern about this upcoming fight against the big puncher Dubois.

It would be a dangerous fight for Joshua even if he were in his mid-20s, but it’s a potential nightmare for him now. Dubois destroyed 2016 Olympian Filip Hrgovic, wearing down the unbeaten fighter to score an eighth-round knockout.

If Joshua (28-3, 25 KOs) is going to take on Dubois (21-2, 20 KOs) on September 21st, he’s going to need to use every trick in the book to reverse the aging and bring back the young kitten that began his career 11 years ago in 2013.

It would be interesting to know if Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, recommended the hot cupping for AJ to use because he’s a little worried about his golden goose ahead of the September fight date. A lot of cash will evaporate if Joshua is obliterated by the young phenom Dubois.

Whether Joshua fights Dubois or the fearsome puncher Zhilei Zhang, Hearn could see his #1 money fighter sent into retirement with a knockout loss.

Is It Time to Retire?

The aging ex-champion Joshua’s bizarre cupping therapy may not pay off for him against the young gun, Dubois, and he’ll have to face reality: It’s time to hang up the gloves.

If Joshua chooses to continue his career, he can still make money in a fight against Tyson Fury in what could be viewed as a good domestic-level scrap. Even if Usyk beats Fury in their rematch, which is likely, a match between him and Joshua will still bring in tons of cash in early 2025.

Hearn has done his part of trying to rebuild Joshua by matching him against four consecutive cupcakes since his back-to-back losses to Oleksandr Usyk. That wasn’t a fix. It was just a camouflage to cover the age.
