Anthony Joshua vs. Daniel Dubois event is now ready to potentially break the record for a boxing crowd at Wembley Stadium in London for their September 21st event.
Capacity Extension Granted
His Excellency Turki Alalshikh reports that his application for a crowd extension at Wembley has been approved. This means that the Joshua-Dubois event could break the current record of 94K set by the Tyson Fury vs. Dullian Whyte event in April 2022. Turki expects a crowd of 96K to turn out for the Joshua vs. Dubois event on September 21st.
If Joshua gets knocked out in front of a record 96,000 crowd at Wembley, it won’t be good for him or promoter Eddie Hearn. This is supposed to be a walk in the park for the 34-year-old former two-time heavyweight champion Joshua (28-3, 25 KOs), going up against an inexperienced 26-year-old Dubois (21-2, 20 KOs), who has lost to Joe Joyce and Oleksandr Usyk.
What Hearn, naive fans, and the oddsmakers have failed to consider is the youth, power, and self-belief that Dubois now has. He’s not the same fighter that lost to Joyce and Usyk.
Moreover, Dubois shouldn’t have lost to Usyk because he knocked him out with a body shot in the fifth round, which the referee ruled was a low blow. So, Dubois’ true record is 22-1, 21 knockouts, and he lost to Joyce because of the eye injury he suffered. If Dubois were to fight Joyce now, he’d destroy him quickly. It wouldn’t even be a fight.
It’s too bad a better undercard wasn’t included with the main event because fans have been complaining on social media about the fighters. Many of them are guys heading nowhere and not high-grade fighters that resonate with fans outside of the UK.
Joshua-Dubois undercard
– Anthony Cacace vs. Josh Warrington: Why on in all that’s good is Warrington being allowed to challenge Cacace for his IBF super featherweight title? Warrington has lost his last two fights, and he doesn’t rate a world title shot with that kind of lowly record. Just on that alone, Warrington shouldn’t even be on the card.
– Joshua Buatsi vs. Willy Hutchinson:
– Liam Smith vs. Josh Kelly
– Mark Chamberlain vs. Josh Padley
– Hamzah Sheeraz vs. Tyler Denny
