WBC bantamweight champion Junto Nakatani and Vincent Astrolabio went head-to-head after making weight, with Astrolabio pointing at the belt he hopes to take home.
Nakatani will be making the second defense of his 118lbs title after winning it with a brutal 12th-round knockout of Andrew Maloney in 2023. This will be Astrolabio’s second attempt at a championship, after losing a majority decision to Maloney while the Australian held it.
The scheduled 12-round bout headlines on Saturday from the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan.
The WBO junior-bantamweight title fight between Kosei Tanaka and Jonathan Rodriguez was called off after Rodriguez weighed in six pounds over the 115lbs weight limit. He was given two hours to make the agreed amount but was unable to on a second attempt.
Both Riku Kano and Anthony Olascuaga were inside the 112lbs weight limit ahead of their clash for the vacant WBO flyweight championship.
The former kickboxing world champion and exhibition opponent of Floyd Mayweather Jr, Tenshin Nasukawa, made weight ahead of his 120lbs 10-round fight with Jonathan Rodriguez.
