Katie Taylor could be stripped of her WBC lightweight title by the sanctioning body because she hasn’t defended that belt in two years.
WBC interim champion Caroline Dubois has been waiting for a crack at the full belt held by the 38-year-old Taylor (24-1, 6 KOs) and wants her overdue shot. Taylor holds belts at lightweight and light Welterweight with the World Boxing Council.
In Taylor’s last fight, she successfully defended her four 140-lb belts, defeating Amanda Serrano (47-3-1, 31 KOs) by a 10-round unanimous Decision on November 15th at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
The performance by Taylor was married by constant he head clashes with Serrano, which left her a bloody mess. Serrano’s face looked like she’d been trampled by a elephant. Not surprisingly, Serrano was furious about the head-butts afterward.
“It has been quite a long time since [Taylor] defended the lightweight Katie Taylor May Lose WBC Title Due To Inactivity. Caroline Dubois is the Interim champion… Hopefully, there will be a resolution,” said WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman to Belfastlive.
The belt could be stripped from Taylor if she doesn’t make a quick decision whether to defend against Dubois or not. Taylor’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, doubts that she’ll fight again after the Serrano fight.
“I don’t think it’s 100% guaranteed that Katie Taylor will fight again,” said Eddie Hearn.
