Katie Taylor is open to trilogy bouts with both her main rivals Amanda Serrano and Chantelle Cameron.
Taylor is coming off the back of a hard fought second win over Serrano on the undercard of Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul that was reportedly broadcast to over 50 million households globally. Taylor was defending the undisputed junior welterweight titles she won against Cameron a year earlier in a rematch after she was beaten by Cameron in their first contest.
Speaking at a live Q&A in Dublin, Taylor answered questions from fans about her career and what’s next for the Irish boxing great. Taylor seems forever linked with a trilogy with Serrano after two highly competitive, entertaining bouts and a third fight against Cameron – the one women to beat her in a professional ring.
“I’m ready to fight and step into the ring with any of those girls really,” Taylor told Matchroom Boxing. “So we’ll see what comes back. We’ll see what happens this year, but I’m ready to step in and beat both [Serrano and Cameron] again.”
Taylor was asked by a young girl in the crowd who was her favorite opponent to fight?
“I think the last couple of fights with Amanda Serrano have been very special because she’s a legend in the sport herself,” Taylor replied. “To share the ring with such a big icon in women’s boxing as well is very, very special and we made history together in Madison Square Garden.
“We made history together again fighting on Netflix the last time. So we shared two very, very special fights together. I think our names are going to be embedded together in history. So, I think she’s just a great opponent. I love challenging myself against the best opponents. I think we get the best out of each other as well.”
Taylor is in the twilight of career and at the age of 38 but still has ambitions to fight in Las Vegas or Saudi Arabia. Her dream venue, however, is to headline in her home country’s national stadium.
“That would be the icing on the cake, wouldn’t it, if I had a fight in Croke Park,” she told another young fan. “I’m still hanging on to the hope that I’ll maybe someday fight there. I think that would be the pinnacle of my career, to be honest, if I had a chance to fight there.
“We’re still trying to get that fight to happen in Croke Park, so we’ll see what happens. Say a few prayers for me.”
