Keyshawn Davis weighed in at 134.2 lbs, while his opponent, light welterweight Gustavo Lemos, came in overweight at 141.4 pounds at Thursday’s weigh-in for their 10-round main event fight this Friday night, November 8th, at the Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia.

Keyshawn Disrespects Lemos

During the face-off, Keyshawn, 25, disrespected Lemos by placing his fist on his chin in a low-life move by the 2020 Olympic silver medalist. Lemos looked embarrassed being humiliated by Davis and just allowed him to do this without shoving or punching him.

Many fighters would have done that if they had been in a similar situation and shown no respect. It’s unclear why Lemos didn’t check Keyshawn on his rude behavior. Perhaps Lemos is still indebted to the Top Rank-promoted fighter because he hand-picked him, and he’s getting paid well to be his B-side opponent.

In a way, Keyshawn choosing Lemos makes him his boss because without him doing the Argentinian a favor, he wouldn’t be getting this nice payday. It was still disturbing to see Lemos treated so poorly and for no reason. He’d been polite to Keyshawn all during the build-up and didn’t deserve this treatment.

It’s not a surprise that Lemos (29-1, 19 KOs) came in 6.4 lbs over the 135-lb limit, because he’s been campaigning at light welterweight [140-lbs] division since December 18th, 2020.

The 28-year-old  should never have been picked by Top Rank to face Keyshawn (11-0, 7 KOs) unless the match were to occur in the light welterweight division.

Keyshawn Could Have Chosen Andy Cruz

If Top Rank wanted to find someone who would make weight, they should have chosen Cuba’s Andy Cruz because he fights at lightweight, is highly ranked, and holds a gleaming 4-0 record against him from their days in the amateurs.

Cruz schooled Keyshawn each time he fought him and had him acting crazy after his win in the 2020 Olympic finals. The Cuban talent calls Keyshawn “My son” because he’s beaten him so many times.

Lemos was born in Tres Arroyos, Argentina. He has a career KO percentage of 65.52. He’s coming off a controversial 12-round unanimous decision against Richardson Hitchins in a light welterweight bout on April 6th at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas. The scores for the fight were 117-111, 115-113 and 115-113. Fans on social media overwhelmingly believed that Lemos had won that fight.

Friday’s Keyshawn vs. Lemos event will be shown live on ESPN+ at 6:20 p.m. ET/3:20 p.m. PT.

Weigh-in Results for Friday

Keysahwn has two of his brothers fighting on the undercard of Friday’s event on ESPN+. They’re basically prospects and don’t appear to be heading towards world title honors. The real talent on the undercard is lightweight prospect Abdullah Mason (15-0, 13 KOs), who is the best fighter on the card, period. He should be in the co-feature spot instead of the light-hitting middleweight Trou Isley.

“I was weighing 140 two days ago. So, my weight is still right there. First of all, this is my homecoming fight,” said Keyshawn Davis to Cigar Talk when asked why he chose the tough Gustavo Lemos as his opponent. “A lot of people didn’t want to fight me in my hometown.

“Knowing that Lemos is from Argentina and from a whole different country, and don’t care. It’s going to be off his grid regardless. He’s coming from Argentina to America. It doesn’t matter that it’s a homecoming fight. For Lemos, he’s coming off a controversial loss [to Richardson Hitchins] period.

“Being that he’s coming off a controversial loss that he feel like he won, he’s got another big opportunity in front of him. This is going to be like his redemption. So, he’s going to be twice as good as he was last time, and that’s somebody I need in front of me to bring the greatest come out of me.

“It’s going to be a great fight because of that, and the fans are going to be the winners at the end of the night as long as The Businessman [wins],’” said Keyshawn.
