Lightweight contender Keyshawn Davis, born and raised in Norfolk, Virginia, returned to his hometown to kick off fight week ahead of his 135lbs meeting with Gustavo Lemos. On Monday afternoon, he visited Jacox Elementary School, where a parade of kindergartners through fourth graders chanted his name.
Davis spoke to more than 50 fifth-grade students in the school auditorium, sharing stories about his upbringing and journey from Norfolk to professional success. He brought a student down from the bleachers for a brief boxing demonstration and signed posters for students and faculty, many of whom taught him nearly two decades ago.
Davis, 11-0 (7 KOs), a silver medalist at the Tokyo Olympics, will make his main event and homecoming debut Friday evening in a 10-round fight against the 29-1 (19 KOs) Lemos.
The event will also feature a middleweight co-main between the 13-0 (5 KOs) Troy Isley and Tyler Howard, 20-1 (11 KOs). Keyshawn’s older brother, junior welterweight contender Kelvin Davis, who is 13-0 (7 KOs), will return in an eight-round bout against the 15-3 (10 KOs) Yeis Solano, while Keyshawn’s younger brother, Keon Davis, will make his professional debut in a four-round junior middleweight fight against the 1-1 (1 KO) Jalen Moore.
