Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis’s next fight is expected to be against Shakur Stevenson in a lightweight unification. The latest news reports that the fight could take place at the end of 2024. However, nothing is confirmed, and in boxing at this time, everything could change in a few days.
Immediately after Davis’ impressive eighth-round knockout win over Frank Martin on June 15th, many sites reported that the fight for Tank would be against IBF lightweight champion Vasily Lomachenko.
A Dream Fight Delayed
Boxing fans approved of the Davis-Lomachenko fight, saying their fight should have happened a long time ago. Unfortunately, the Lomachenko clash won’t happen for Tank Davis this year because Loma wants time off.
Fans had their favorite between them. While some favored the requisite technique of Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KOs), others preferred the brutal power of Gervonta (30-0, 28 KOs). Undoubtedly, that fight, even if it were a little out of time, would be a match between power and technique.
Lomachenko is a genius, and Davis is a killer, but Loma’s age in this era is unknown. Will Vasyl be able to withstand Gervonta’s power and stalking?
Can Davis decipher the magic of Lomachenko and liquidate him by KO? We don’t know the answers but understand that it would be a dream fight.
Linares’ View: Davis Dominates the Division
Jorge Linares has his own opinion on this couple of fights, and this is what he said:
Former world champion Jorge Linares says WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis is currently the strongest boxer in the division. Neither IBF Champion Vasily Lomachenko nor WBC champion Shakur Stevenson can compete with him.
This is a new era for Gervonta Davis. He’s the most amazing lightweight boxer in a long time, said Linares in an interview with YSM Sports Media. Vasyl Lomachenko is a great fighter and boxer, but now it’s another time. Maybe four years ago, it would have been an equal fight.
I believe that Gervonta will win, perhaps by technical knockout, maybe even clean, said Linares about a fight between Davis and Lomachenko.
Maybe Gervonta will use the same plan as he used in his fight against Frank Martin. He waited for his moment and knocked out the guy. Perhaps we will see the same thing against Lomachenko if the fight happens.
Linares’ Prediction: Davis to Dominate Stevenson
Linares views the former three-division world champion Shakur Stevenson as the easier option for Tank Davis than Lomachenko.
If Tank meets Shakur, it’s an easier fight, said Linares. For me, it’s more exciting to see Lomachenko battling Gervonta. Against Shakur, Davis can do whatever he wants, winning by a 12-round decision or a knockout. If the fight with Shakur goes through, Davis can kill the guy in a mismatch.
