Light welterweights Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall clash tonight in a 12-round non-title rematch live on ESPN+ in the US and live on DAZN in the UK at the First Direct Arena in Leeds, England. Taylor’s four titles are gone now, but both fighters still have much at stake.
Taylor (19-1, 13 KOs), the former undisputed light welterweight champion, beat Catterall (28-1, 13 KOs) two years ago in Glasgow, Scotland in 2022.
The Eddie Hearn-promoted Catterall will attempt to avenge the loss in this 50-50 fight tonight. It’s a crossroads fight for both guys, as they’ve been spinning their wheels since 2022, doing next to nothing to further their stalled careers.
Tonight’s event will be shown live on ESPN+ at 3:15 p.m. ET /12:15 p.m. PT. The main event ringwalks will be at approximately 5:35 p.m. ET / 2:35 p.m. PT.
B247 will give live updates and results of the action below.
Tonight’s Undercard Action:
Cheavon Clarke vs. Ellis Zorro
Paddy Donovan vs. Lewis Ritson
The 33-year-old Josh Taylor looked gawdawful in his 12-round unanimous decision defeat at the hands of Teofimo Lopez last year in New York. Taylor lost his last belt, his WBO 140-lb strap in that fight. The other three, Taylor had vacated.
It’s interesting how capturing the undisputed light welterweight championship in 2021 has done a number on Taylor’s once promising career. His ambition has gone out the window, and he’s looked horrible since.
Catterall has done little with his career since his loss to Taylor, but that’s been the norm. Before fighting Taylor, Catterall had never fought anyone of note, and since his loss, he’s resumed fighting random opposition.
