IBF featherweight champion Luis Alberto Lopez roasted Shakur Stevenson, responding to a comment on X, predicting he will bet on Angelo Leo beating him tonight in their fight in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Tonight, Lopez defends his IBF 126-lb title in the main event against #10 Angelo Leo (24-1, 11 KOs) in a Top Rank-promoted event at the Tingley Coliseum. The event card will be broadcast on ESPN and ESPN+ starting at 10:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. PT. Lopez is expected to win tonight and will likely knock out Leo.

‘Venado’ Lopez (30-2, 17 KOs) sarcastically responded to Shakur about his likely running to make that bet, as he does in all his fights.

Shakur’s “Runner” Reputation

WBC lightweight champion Shakur has rapidly developed a reputation as a runner after seven years in the pro ranks, and it’s hurt his career because he’s avoided now.

Fighters don’t fear his power or his skills; rather, they don’t want to fight an opponent who refuses to engage. Shakur’s fight against Edwin De Los Santos really hurt his popularity last November because he was running around for the full 12 rounds, causing the fans at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas to boo him nonstop.

The fans were so upset that they continued to boo Shakur during his post-fight interview inside the ring and booed him as he walked out of the arena. An injury excuse was floated after the fight on why Shakur looks so bad, but the fans didn’t buy it.

It’s too bad Shakur and Lopez don’t fight in the same weight class because they could battle it out to show who the better fighter is. Shakur is two divisions above Venado Lopez in weight, and that’s obviously too much of a difference unless he drops back down to 130.
