Luis Nery and Kyonosuke Kameda both checked in officially at 124 pounds on Friday, ahead of their 10-round non-title fight on Saturday night in Nery’s hometown of Tijuana, Mexico.
Nery initially weighed in at 126lbs but was able to make the 124lb catchweight limit within the allotted time limit.
Nery, 35-2 (27 KOs), is fighting for the first time since his sixth-round stoppage loss to Naoya Inoue last May for the undisputed junior featherweight championship. The Kameda fight is Nery’s first in his hometown since October 2022, when he stopped David Carmona in three rounds.
Kameda, 15-3-2 (9 KOs), of Osaka, Japan, is riding an 8-0-1 streak but is fighting for the first time outside of his home country. The 26-year-old Kameda is four years younger than Nery, a former WBC bantamweight and junior featherweight titleholder.
The fight, which is promoted by Zanfer Boxing, will stream live across Latin America on ESPN Knock Out and on Box Azteca in the United States.
