The former English super middleweight champion Mark Jeffers faces late substitute, Elvis Ahorgah, for the Commonwealth Silver title on Boxxer’s double world title show in Liverpool on Saturday and is intent on putting on a show and forcing his way into a major fight.

“I’m punching a lot harder now. I made a statement last time. I believe I’m way above this level. I should be fighting at a higher level already. I can’t do much but just keep winning. It’s going to be a devastating knockout once again,” Jeffers, 18-0 (5 KOs) said at Thursday’s press conference.

“If he comes out [aggressively], he’s gonna get knocked out in the first round. I’m not bothered.”

On January 11th, British and Commonwealth super middleweight champion, Callum Simpson, 15-0 (10 KOs), will defend his titles against Steed Woodall in Sheffield. Simpson and Jeffers have been linked to a fight for some time but there was always the feeling that it wouldn’t happen until the stakes were big enough.

That point is rapidly approaching. In August, Simpson showed he is more than capable of drawing a crowd when he attracted thousands to Barnsley’s Oakwell Stadium for his title fight with Zak Chelli. The night was a success and Simpson is likely to return there this summer. The highly ranked, undefeated Jeffers would be the ideal opponent, and the winner would be the man most likely to continue Britain’s rich 12 stone tradition.

“Yeah. That’s my number one fight. I keep saying it. I’ve earned it,” Jeffers said. “I beat Chelli on two weeks’ notice and I still don’t think I’m getting the recognition I deserve so, for me, everyone knows that the biggest fight in Britain at super middleweight is me against Callum Simpson so there’s no excuse for that not to happen. We’ve both gotta win. If we win, that fight’s gotta be next.

“I beat Callum Simpson every day of the week. He’s a good fighter but he makes far too many mistakes. Somebody like me, I’ll show him what’s what.”
