Mark Jeffers feels more than ready to test himself against the best super middleweights Europe has to offer after brushing aside late substitute Joshua Quartey, 10-1 (9 KOs), in Liverpool on Saturday.
Jeffers, 19-0 (6 KOs), stopped the previously undefeated Ghanaian in three one-sided rounds and afterwards the 26-year-old reiterated his desire to get involved with some major names in 2025.
Jeffers has been linked to a European title fight with Kevin Lele Sadjo but the dangerous Frenchman has – so far – proven impossible to nail down.
Fortunately, Jeffers does have a natural rival in Callum Simpson, who has been making quite the name for himself over the past 18 months and last August sold around 7,000 tickets for his British and Commonwealth title fight with then champion Zak Chelli. Simpson relieved the tricky Londoner of his titles that night and made himself into one of Boxxer’s major attractions.
It certainly isn’t down to any lack of desire or effort on his part but, after more than eight years as a professional, Jeffers is still waiting to fight somebody capable of forcing him out of second gear. He knows that that challenge will come in 2025 and is ready for anybody.
“Yeah, and it’s not even just Simpson. I want literally anybody who’s a top fighter; that’s when you’re going to see brilliant performances. I’m top 10 with the IBF now. I know it’s a long shot but even if William Scull wanted a voluntary you know, just give me a call, I fancy that,” Jeffers told Sky Sports after brushing away Quartey’s challenge.
As for Sadjo, Jeffers has grown tired of chasing the Frenchman.
“Don’t even mention his name. He’s a waste of time,” he said.
Simpson makes the first defence of his titles against Steed Woodall on January 11th. Considering that Woodall became the first man to defeat former British, European and IBO champion Lerrone Richards, in June, it would be extremely dangerous to overlook his chances of upsetting Simpson, yetJeffers believes that the man from Barnsley will get past Woodall and keep a major summer showdown on track. He would be more than willing to travel to Barnsley and fight Simpson in front of his home fans.
“I do think he beats him,” he said. “I have got absolutely nothing but respect for Callum. This is to better my life, it’s to better my boxing career and Callum Simpson, for me, in Britain is the biggest name. It could have been somebody else who was the biggest name, I’d have gone for them, so it’s nothing personal. This is business.
“Callum, I’m 100% he’s up for it. It’s 100% clear I am.”
