GOLD COAST, AUSTRALIA – Matchroom are preparing to match George Kambosos Jnr at junior welterweight ahead of a potential date with Richardson Hitchins later in 2025.
They plan to follow Jai Opetaia-David Nyika, a co-promotion with Tasman Fighters at the Gold Coast Convention Centre in Queensland, with a promotion on March 22 in Sydney, New South Wales, led by Kambosos Jnr.
Kambosos Jnr was a free agent when he agreed terms with Matchroom before the conclusion of 2024, and was considered a potential challenger to his fellow Australian Liam Paro until Paro sacrificed the IBF junior-welterweight title in defeat by Hitchins in Puerto Rico in December.
“Just a homecoming,” Eddie Hearn told BoxingScene about his immediate plans for Kambosos. “One fight at 140, like a top-15 guy – March 22nd we’re looking at – and then, hopefully, he fights Hitchins.”
