Mauricio Sulaimán, the president of the World Boxing Council (WBC), told BoxingScene that the undisputed heavyweight title fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk this Saturday will have a separate boxing commission to the rest of the card.
“For the main event it will be the Middle East Professional Boxing Commission,” Sulaimán said at the grand arrivals ceremony. “It’s only the main event, all the other fights will be under the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBoC). I believe it was an agreement in the contract to sign the fight. They demanded a neutral commission.”
It is a similar situation to Fury’s last bout, a non-title 10-round points win over Francis Ngannou. The BBBoC did not sanction that bout though they did oversee the rest of the card and approved all officials. Fury does not currently hold a British boxing license.
“Jose Mohan is a German who has sanctioned many bouts in Dubai and here in Saudi Arabia,” Sulaimán explained. “They are very trained and ready to perform.”
Fury puts his WBC belt on the line against Usyk’s IBF, WBA and WBO belts in what is regarded as the first undisputed heavyweight championship title fight since Lennox Lewis beat Evander Holyfield in a rematch in November 1999.
