Ireland’s Michael Conlan is set to begin the mission to salvage his career on March 7 when he takes on Asad Asif Khan in Brighton, England. The eight-rounder will be on the undercard of Harlem Eubank-Tyrone McKenna.
From India, the 19-5-1 (5 KOs) Khan has only had one prior flirtation with world class and it didn’t end well. The 31-year-old was knocked out in five rounds by Can Xu in 2023.
Conlan considered retirement after the surprise stoppage loss to Gill 13 months ago but is determined to give his career one more try.
“I turned professional in 2017 with a clear goal – to become world champion,” said the 2016 Olympian. “I still firmly believe I have the ability to get to the very top, and I did not want to retire and, 10 or 15 years down the line, be thinking ‘What if?’”
