Marquis Taylor will return to the ring on December 13 in Houston, Texas, to face undefeated Petr Khamukov at the Red Owl Boxing Arena.
The fight will be broadcast live on DAZN.
Taylor, now trained by former titleholder Shawn Porter, hasn’t lost in nine years since a 2015 defeat to Ladarius Miller. Since then, he’s beaten five undefeated fighters. This will be his third fight of 2024, following an August stoppage win over Roberto Garcia.
“HOUSTON HERE WE GO!!!” Taylor announced on social media. “I requested an undefeated fighter to fight in front of my home town!”
Khamukov, 13-0 (6 KOs), is a 33-year-old former Russian Olympian from the 2016 Games and trains in Southern California. He claimed a split-decision win over Vaughn Alexander in March and a third-round stoppage over Esau Herrera de la Cruz in May.
“December 13 I will prove that I live up to my name ‘0 snatcher’ by defeating yet another Olympian and undefeated fighter,” Taylor wrote. “NOBODY in this sport coming up as hard as me!”
Taylor, 17-1-2 (3 KOs), has his eyes set on a title, declaring on social media, “I WILL BE WORLD CHAMPION BY NEXT YEAR!” His notable win over Yoelvis Gomez in July 2023 remains the highlight of his career, when Taylor befuddled the more powerful Gomez with his arrhythmic inside fighting. Major opportunities have yet to follow.
