WBO welterweight titleholder Mikaela Mayer has offered to face Amanda Serrano if the latter isn’t able to secure a trilogy fight with Katie Taylor.

Serrano, 36, of Puerto Rico, lost a unanimous decision to Taylor last Friday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The defeat marked her second loss to Ireland’s Taylor in their two historic encounters. While a third bout between the two seems logical, 34-year-old Mayer has suggested an alternative.

Mayer, 20-2 (5 KOs), became a two-division champion in September after defeating Sandy Ryan via majority decision. She attended Serrano-Taylor II and later responded to Serrano’s post on X celebrating the progress of women’s boxing:

“What I’m the happiest about is that we all as women are slowly but surely getting opportunities & we’re taking full advantage of them. I personally tune in when any of the girls fight. That[‘s] because we all do it for the same cause – Women’s Boxing,” Serrano wrote.

Mayer quote-tweeted the post, adding:

“Well said, @Serranosisters. This generation of women have done big things. Proud of you and thank you.”

Mayer then made her proposal:

“With that said… Amanda, if Katie isn’t willing to agree to a much-deserved trilogy, I will happily drop to 140 and challenge you. Would be honored to have you on my resume. I think the fans might enjoy it too.”

Serrano, 47-3-1 (31 KOs), has competed in multiple weight classes throughout her career, most recently between featherweight and lightweight. Mayer, who has held titles at junior lightweight and now welterweight, has offered to fight Serrano at junior welterweight.

When asked if she would agree to 12 three-minute rounds – the same format as men’s professional boxing and a cause championed by Serrano – Mayer confirmed as much on X:

“Yes. I would gladly go 12 three-minute rounds with the champ.”
